Have you taken steps to protect your business?
As you might be aware, fraud and cyber risks remain extremely high.
- We observe all kind of frauds: CEO frauds, vendor scams, salary frauds, investment frauds, etc.
- Victims can be corporates of all sectors and all sizes.
- Fraudsters and hackers act together, improving their social engineering techniques to make frauds appear more realistic.
Notwithstanding these risks, BNP Paribas stands alongside you to protect your company. You will find below some concrete tips to prevent frauds, as well as a focus on supplier fraud (which is the most common fraud today).
BNP Paribas’ tips! | Visit the website of BNP Paribas Cash Management – Fighting against fraud & cyber risks – to find information on the most frequent fraud schemes and useful tips to protect your company. Train & retrain all your employees regarding fraud and cyber risks, leveraging BNP Paribas awareness kit (click here). Reinforce human controls to check the bank details of your beneficiaries. At each request for change of supplier account, verify the identity of the applicant via secure contact details that have already been used (preferably by telephone). Notify the bank immediately in case of doubt about an operation you have carried out. Notify the authorities in case of proven fraud. |
Vendor scam: have you been targeted yet? | Vendor scam, also known as “supplier fraud”, is the most frequent fraud scheme! – It is based on a very simple process, which makes it even more dangerous. The fraudster contacts the company’s finance or other relevant departments by posing as one of your usual suppliers to notify a change of bank account. Without verification, transfers to the true supplier could be diverted to the fraudster’s account. – Fraudsters use increasingly sophisticated techniques to achieve their goals : identity theft, email spoofing, social engineering, bill theft, or cyber-attacks – all means are possible. – Vendor scam also has its variants like the salary fraud: dozens are reported every month-end in most countries! |
This notification does not constitute advice on how to secure your business and/or banking activities, it is solely intended to alert you on potential risks.
